A new excerpt from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could confirm the arrival of this long-awaited enemy teased in Wanda Vision.
The sequel to the adventures of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) directed by Sam Raimi continues to reveal itself in extracts. Even if Morbius and Sony reminded us that trailers can be misleading with passages created for promotion to attract fans like flies on shit of honey. Nevertheless, a new teaser of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could confirm the presence of a villain more than expected by the fans and that the MCU had already announced in clues.
In a short passage, we can therefore see a roaring creature with a lucky charm mouth that could be more than a generic MCU monster. Its design recalls an enemy that we want to see in Doctor Strange 2, the Elder God Chthon, author of the Darkholda cursed book that the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) has had for Wanda Vision. And the expectation to see this villain in the movie is highit is because it has every reason to reach the point that we had already theorized about its presence. In the comics, the Darkhold was left behind by the ancestral deity before being banished from our world, in addition to making Wanda its host for its return.
In the comics, it has several representationssometimes as a hooded humanoid Avengers #187 in 1979 by Mark Gruenwald, Steven Grant, David Michelinie and John Byrne, sometimes with big horns as in Darkhold Alpha in 2021 by Steve Orlando and Cian Tormey, or as a Lovecraftian monster as seen in Carnage in 2017 by Gerry Conway and Mike Perkins. This is this last version which echoes the monster of the teaserbut is it really him? Unlikely.
Always work on your entry
As a Chaos God, wish it wasn’t portrayed as a growling beastie by Marvel. With that, he’s much less impressive than his appearances in the comics, and we’ll pass on the strange idea of revealing a villain kept secret a month before the film’s release (even if Marvel is still a source of astonishment like the showed the messed up promotion of Spider-Man: No Coming Home). The creature seen therefore does not seem to be Chthon, but can still confirm its presence.
This beautiful face with sparkling eyes of life could rather be a demonic creation of the godwe see two of them in the video. Chthon has, in the comics, created several monsters to spread Chaos and accomplish its dark purposes. Thereby, Doctor Strange 2 could have these dreadful critters among the enemies of the heroes, we think for example of the demon killers N’Garai. But with Wong and Wanda standing by their side, they’re likely allies, and for a reason, Scarlet Witch would dominate them.
A mouthful of good luck
Indeed, Wanda is sold in the promotion of the film as being one of the antagonists of the film (one can assume because of the Darkhold, and therefore of Chthon). The former Avengers could, however, join the side of Doctor Strange in order to face the threat which descends on the Multiverse. Thus, in this quest to save realities, Wanda would manage to possess the demons sent by Chthon giving rise to the scene that we could see where she, Wong and the two monsters stand ready to fight against another enemy.
Even if it is not Chthon that we see in this snippet, and thankfully, because a bit of a movie surprise wouldn’t hurt, it could still be a big hint that the Old God is here, finally, in the MCU. There’s no better opportunity than a movie that brings together the Sorcerer Supreme and the Scarlet Witch in an inter-dimensional threat to bring in The One Who Slept Before The Man Came Out Of The Sea (a catchy nickname). .
Obviously, all of this remains speculation, the best way to have all the answers to our questions being to wait until May 4, 2022 to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness At the movie theater.
