A storm of goals to the advantage of the Canadians

Andrew Hammond had a very difficult evening against his former team, the Montreal Canadiens, who chased the “Hamburglar” from the game in addition to defeating the New Jersey Devils 7 to 4, Thursday evening, at the Prudential Center.

After giving up six goals on just 19 shots, the one who played four games in blue-white-red this season was kicked out of the game to make way for Nico Daws. It must be said that Hammond was not helped by some of his defenders, in particular Dougie Hamilton and PK Subban who concluded with a differential of -4.

The Habs took advantage of their opportunities to take the lead in the first period and no longer look back thereafter. Nick Suzuki, Jake Evans and Cole Caufield all shook the ropes in the opening 14 minutes.

The dynamic duo of the Canadian combined wonderfully towards the end of the engagement when Suzuki sent Caufield on the breakaway. The small forward beat Hammond with his lightning throw.

By knocking on the door, the Devils finally entered. After an excellent season with the Utica Comets in the American League, Quebecer AJ Greer scored his first goal in the National League since February 2019, while wearing the Colorado Avalanche uniform.

Tomas Tatar, Ty Smith and Jesper Bratt also hit the target for the Devils, shooting no less than 37 times on Jake Allen.

Martin St-Louis has imposed a rotation on its training by leaving aside the young defenders Jordan Harris and Justin Barron, the latter being injured, in favor of Chris Wideman and Kale Clague.

Wideman scored the first of two goals in 15 seconds for CH early in the third period. With two assists, he now has 13 points in his last 11 outings.

Clague was not left out. The player claimed on waivers went there with a harvest identical to that of his teammate at the blue line. It was the first game in a month for the 23-year-old full-back, who has been slowed by an upper-body injury.

Christian Dvorak also got in on the fun with three points, while Suzuki, Caufield and Brendan Gallagher had two.

It’s a 20th victory for Montreal this season, in its 71st duel. The next game of the Sainte-Flanelle will be Saturday, against the Maple Leafs, in Toronto.
