Cryptocurrency: no capital gains tax on donations if Poilievre becomes prime minister

Tax will be waived on capital gains from cryptocurrency donations to registered Canadian charities, Conservative Party of Canada leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre has promised.

If he becomes prime minister, the CCP leadership hopeful wants cryptocurrencies “to be treated like stocks and bonds for the purposes of charitable donations,” as proposed by Dan Albas, MP for Central Okanagan-Similkameen-NicolaIl, in a bill.

“It should be just as easy for Canadians to donate cryptocurrency to help their local animal shelter or food bank as it is to donate stock,” Poilievre said in a statement.

With this promise, Pierre Poilievre wants to give Canadians back a little freedom when it comes to their finances. In fact, his policy itself aims to give Canadians “control back over their money and their lives by making Canada the freest country in the world.”
