Several hundred Montrealers demonstrated on Saturday to show their dissatisfaction with the work of the Ray-Mont Logistiques project, planned in their borough of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

Forming a human chain, the citizens said they were unhappy to see the work begin without new environmental studies.

They notably criticized the Minister of the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change, Benoît Charette, for triggering a BAPE on this project.

“Mr. Charette had undertaken, during a meeting with our representatives in the summer of 2021, to inform us as soon as a project was submitted. For more than a year, he has been insisting that he cannot decide in favor or against a BAPE since no project has been submitted. This week, drama! The Minister announces that he will not trigger a BAPE. What happened? Has a project been submitted? If so, what does it contain? asked Cassandre Charbonneau-Jobin, one of the spokespersons for the Mobilization 6600 – Parc Nature MHM group.

The group therefore asked the various governments to act to prevent the project from being carried out.

“How can heavy industry be set up so close to residential areas in 2022, without serious consideration of the consequences it will have for the environment and people’s health?” she added.
