“I have seen, like everyone else, that the government has moved very quickly from pandemic mode to electoral mode. That won’t make the virus go away. So what I’m saying is that, as elected officials, we have a responsibility, ”said solidarity deputy Vincent Marissal on Wednesday morning.

With 1,938 hospitalizations, up from 145 on Tuesday, and on the eve of the long Easter holiday, the national director of public health, Dr. Luc Boileau, must hold a press briefing on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

But the Prime Minister’s absence from the case in recent weeks has been denounced by his opponents.

Liberal leader Dominique Anglade notably accused Mr. Legault of “trivializing” the situation, in particular with his statement in which he compared COVID-19 to “a cold” for vaccinated people.

“At the moment, we are seeing an upsurge in cases, hospitalizations and people in intensive care, and the government seems to be acting as if it does not exist,” denounced the parliamentary leader of the Parti Québécois, Joël Arseneau.

Questioned in the corridors of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister first referred the questions to the Dr Boileau.

As for the significant increase in hospitalizations, François Legault provided an update. “There are half of them, hospitalizations, these are people with COVID, they are not in the hospital for COVID-19”, he explained.
