Netflix announced that The Witcher series three entered production in early April, releasing the behind-the-scenes image above, which shows Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan back in costume.
Season 2 of The Witcher revealed some great things about Ciri’s abilities, and we’re sure we’ll learn even more about her powers and see the trio take on even more gruesome beasts when the epic fantasy saga continue to.
Here’s everything we know about The Witcher season 3 so far…
The Witcher season 3 release date
Given that production on The Witcher season 3 only started in April and the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin will arrive later this year, we don’t expect to see the third season coming anytime soon.
It took two years for the second season to arrive, which gives the strong impression that we will see the third materialize at some point in December 2023.
The cast of The Witcher season 3
Naturally, you can’t have The Witcher without its main characters, and we know Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), and Ciri (Freya Allan) will all be returning in the upcoming series.
Now that Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer) has realized what Ciri is truly capable of, we expect to see her and her fellow mages return in the upcoming series.
We also expect to see Geralt’s fellow wizards, Vesemir (Kim Bodnia), Lambert (Paul Bullion), and Coen (Yasen Atour), return after surviving their ordeal at Kaer Morhen in the series one finale.
As for the new faces, Netflix has revealed the identities of four new cast members joining the series for Season 3.

Robbie Amell (Upload, Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City) plays Gallatin, a fighter born at the head of a guerrilla army that fights on behalf of the Nilfgaardian Empire. His loyalty to his own people, the Scoia’tael, will bring him into conflict with Francesca.
Next is Meng’er Zhang (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings). Their character, Milva, is a skilled human hunter who has been adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest.
Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia Here We Go Again!, Fleabag) stars as playboy royal Prince Radovid. Radovid is the younger brother of King Vizimir who inadvertently ended up inside the Redanian Secret Service and brings a drunken charm to the game of politics.
Finally, there is Christelle Elwin (Half Bad). Christelle stars as Mistle, who is part of a gang of misfit teenagers called “The Rats.” Netflix tells us that Mistle is out for revenge on something until a chance encounter changes her path.
One actor who is unsure of returning is Bridgerton season 2 star Adjoa Andoh. She plays High Priestess Nenneke, a former friend of Geralt.
During an interview with the RadioTimes, she revealed that she was not sure if she would return in the next series.
Adjoh said: “We will see. The books are so huge. And they took so many different paths in the stories. Nenneke is very present in the books. But it depends on what they want to do with this version.
“It totally depends on what the creators of the series want to do with the material from the books and how they want to balance it, and so we’ll wait and see.”
The plot of The Witcher season 3
We already knew this upcoming season was based on The Time of Scorn, the second novel in the Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, thanks to a tweet from showrunner, Lauren Hissrich.
Netflix’s tagline for the series explains what it means for the next season. It reads: “As the monarchs, mages and beasts of the continent vie to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect her newly reunited family from those who threaten to destroy her.
Charged with training Ciri in magic, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more of the girl’s untapped powers. Instead, they find they’ve landed on a battlefield rife with political corruption, dark magic, and betrayal. They must defend themselves, put everything on the line – or risk losing themselves forever.”
