Isabelle Adjani: the day she left behind a legendary director

During her career, Isabelle Adjani has toured with the greatest. If she played in many films, she however left behind a legendary director in the 1980s.

Film star Isabelle Adjani began her career at the age of 14. If she has toured with many renowned directors, she has one day left behind a legendary director! In 1983, Jean-Luc Godard called on her for the film Prénom Carmen. While she had left the set, it was in an interview with Vanity Fair which the actress explained: “There are breaking points that have nothing to do with the limits I just talked about. My father was dying, the film and Godard demanded total involvement, with the brilliantly unhealthy fantasy of which he has the secret. I wasn’t in the mood to enjoy his ego, I couldn’t take the shock, while filming with Godard was one of the dreams of my love life, I who identified so much with Anna Karina.. .

Referring to this filming that she had to stop, Isabelle Adjani said: “What is more Godardian in action? Not much. So all the idiots who didn’t understand, with their moralizing criticisms, I tell them shit with the banter of Belmondo in Breathless in the name of my father’s death.“In an interview with Unbreakable, in 2018, the star had already mentioned this project. “Godard made plans for me for preparatory tests. Then we shot a few scenes. But I don’t know where these pictures are, or if they’ll ever come out“, she revealed.

Isabelle Adjani: “I suffered too much”

Having left the film despite wanting more than anything, the actress said: “My father was dying. It took up all the space. I would have needed someone close to me (…) who gives me good advice, who would have calmed me down and reminded me that shooting with him was still part of my life’s dreams.that what I was going through one day would find a meaning that I couldn’t imagine yet, because I was in too much pain… I went to the hospital every night, then to the morgue. There. Exit Godard.
