TVA reporter Alain Laforest confirmed the news on Saturday.

The politician was first elected in 2014, in the riding of Robert-Baldwin, located in the West Island of Montreal. During this first term, he served as Minister of Finance under the government of Philippe Couillard. His reign as minister was marked by a period of austerity or budgetary rigour, depending on one’s point of view.

Mr. Leitao is the twelfth in the Liberal caucus to announce that he will not be on the starting blocks in the 2022 general election. All have announced that they are retiring from political life.
